Description

today was the last day of my 4th semester and in a couple weeks I'm gonna fly to new york for my 6-month-internship <3

theme of this semester was "grow"...honestly, wasn't quite fond of it.
Well, let me hear what you think of the collection I designed :)

In case someone's interested I'll explain a little bit how the designs were developed :)

I study at the university of applied science in pforzheim, were "creativity" is huge.
So when we get a theme like "grow", noone expects that "grow" will show in the end designs :D
"grow" refered to plants, so everyone did their own research on that and did their own research-boards with inspirational pictures, then concept boards, where the inspiration was turned into actual plans for the designs and moodboards, which described the person, the kind of woman, who'd be wearing the outfits, and also the atmosphere around the designs.

So my research lead me to the transparency of plants. It's what inspired me the most throughout research and was the first thing to define pictures in my head.
My concept was also lead by transparency and therewith contained the keywords "transparent - opaque" "narrow - wide" "hard - soft"
My mood...well, a moodboard expresses itself with images, it's not supposed to be explained. If you have to, you did something wrong ; )
for the atmosphere and personality I can give you those words "feminin, elegant, fragile, intensive, erotic"

Next step is mapping.
I don't know if you know this. You take pictures, and put it over figurines. It's pictures from your research and concept and there are a tousend ways to be inspired by those pictures by simply layering them on a human body.
It's not meant in the way that a blossom upside down will be a skirt, it's something to experiment with.
After this procedure, there are at least 20 (there could be more, but that's the amount that is sufficient for us) different figurines with each different shapes, sillhouettes, hints of clothing, patterns, etc.

From this the good stuff and figurines that seem to work together get picked out. shapes are altered, patterns defined, prints may have developed
You take what you have and turn it into wearable attire.
Or you do more mapping. Or you define only 3 figurines and and use them for new mapping or just as inspiration and start over.
Everyone has their own pace at that point and decides for themselves when an actual collection is formed.

For my collection. My key moment was the mapping, it defined the sillhouettes and the flow. Like how the huge pom poms covering a whole body turn into floating material and everything ends in edgy shapes.

Colors and farbic are chosen during the progess, somewhere inbetween mood/condept and when the actually sewing starts and when textiles need to be chosen, usually some alterations are done.
Together with my first influences of transparency and lead by my mood setting, my collection was formed :)

So I hope that gives a bit of an insight ^^;
